In addition to the services normally offered at an RNC, there are several other services provided to our elders which complement their care:

* Bus: The bus was purchased with monies generously donated by our community members. The bus is available to assist our staff in ensuring our elders continue to participate in those activities which they enjoyed prior to their admission. Some examples of the bus outings are:
o attendance at AARP meetings
o shopping trips
o dinner trips
o weddings
o color tours
o ice cream runs
o parade participation
o worship services
o picnics

* Gardenwalk: The gardenwalk is a multidepartmental approach in developing an area that will serve many purposes. First and foremost, the gardens provide a relaxing and reflective view from outside each elder's window as well as allowing for a quiet place to sit and visit when company comes. Secondly, the variety of pathways composed of different textures allows the therapy department an alternative area to complete the day's therapy work. Lastly, the colors and smells of the flowers inspire nostalgic memories for our elders. The garden plan includes pathways, flowers, bushes and trees that wrap around the entire unit, providing a view to both the elders' rooms on the inside and to the individuals enjoying the seasons outside.

* Heels to Wheels program: The Heels to Wheels program began in May 2003. The program pairs an individual working within Reed City Hospital with an elder residing in our neighborhoods. This pairing has become inspiration to many of our staff and has resulted in long-term friendships between our staff and residents.
